Where can I get additional help on Cool Captions?

First of all look into the Cool Captions Help. Surprisingly a very few people like to read, but nevertheless all the necessary information is contained there. It is much faster than contacting authors by e-mail.

I'd like to use gif images.

That's not hard to add GIF support, but we need to wait until GIF format becomes royalty free.

I do not hear music, please help.

Please make sure that:

  1. you have a sound card;
  2. multimedia playback check mark on the Screen Saver page is on;
  3. Multimedia playlist is not empty and contains checked files;
  4. Your system supports selected formats - double click on a file in Explorer to check.

I have created my own screen saver. May I give it to other people?

Yes, if you are a registered Cool Captions user and your screen saver does not contain copyrighted materials (you have corresponding permissions from copyright owners; you have created the contents yourself).

How to turn off sounds in my own screen saver?

The only way is to remove multimedia from the screen saver during it's creation. The standalone screen saver engine has been created to be as clean as possible, so it does not write to Registry and it does not leave files on a user's system. Therefore, custom CC screen savers are 100% pre-configured. It is possible to add the install/uninstall support feature, but we are still in doubt about it's necessity.

Why some multimedia (wav, MP3, video etc.) is fine at my computer but never plays at my friend's one?

Cool Captions does not carry it's own decoders and uses system ones (otherwise your own screen saver would be several megabytes in size). No one system supports all possible sound and video formats. Moreover, your friend may have a computer without a sound card. The guaranteed solution is to create a screen saver without multimedia support - that is what Cool Captions was designed for originally, and you will avoid a copyright problem. If you do need music, use midi files - they are compact, play everywhere, and often allowed for use by their authors.

Why my floating logo does not load into CC?

Cool Captions does not load logos wider than 320 pixels.

Where can I get sprites and images for my own screen saver?

There are many places in Internet. Start search from CC Gallery. You may also use sprites from other programs, for example, from ShooltzSaver.

May I use my own floating logos and sprites?

Yes. The simplest way is to load into a paint program your own photo, apply a non-rectangular mask, resample to less than 320 pixels wide and save it to a PNG file. See CC Help for more.

The screen saver does not work, please help.

We can't. May be in the future we will find a clairvoyant who will be able to see the problem remotely. Meanwhile please describe your problem in as much details as possible, we probably know the answer.
